Select a database of enslaved people to search

You may choose to search within one of the following databases.

The African Origins Database provides personal details of 93,605 Africans taken from captured slave ships or from African trading sites. It displays the African name, age, gender, and places of embarkation and disembarkation of each individual. The database invites users to make contributions to the site to identify the likely ethnolinguistic origins of the names from the historical records.

The Oceans of Kinfolk Database provides personal details of more than 63,000 enslaved African Americans forcibly transported to New Orleans from various ports in the United States during the 19th century. The database includes the name, age, gender, and places of embarkation and disembarkation of each individual.
