The bark ""Wildfire"" departed from New York, embarked slaves in the Congo River, with the intention of selling them in Cuba. However, before it could do so, American anti-slave trade cruisers intercepted the “Wildfire” at sea and conducted her to Key West, Florida, and eventually to Liberia. The image is of an illustration of the slaves on the deck of the ""Wildfire"" published in the ""Harper’s Weekly"" from a daguerreotype. The image is reproduced courtesy of Tracy W.
